UAE and India working hours: how the 1½-hour difference works in practice
Time zones are the first objection to an India team, and the smallest one. India is only 1½ hours ahead of the UAE, and the working day lines up almost exactly.
The difference is 1½ hours, all year
The UAE runs on UTC+4 and India on UTC+5:30. Neither country uses daylight saving time, so the gap is 1½ hours in every month of the year. Compare that with a team in the Philippines or the United States, where the gap is larger, or changes with the seasons.
A Lydon team works 10:00–19:00 India time. That is 08:30–17:30 in the UAE, which covers a standard UAE office day. Your morning instructions arrive while the team is already at their desks, and the day ends together with yours.
Time conversion table
| UAE time | India time | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 08:30 | 10:00 | The team starts |
| 10:00 | 11:30 | Morning check-in window |
| 12:00 | 13:30 | Midday; most meetings can be held |
| 14:00 | 15:30 | Afternoon working block |
| 16:00 | 17:30 | Review and hand-over window |
| 17:30 | 19:00 | The team finishes |
Because the working day is almost identical, a question you send at 11:00 in Dubai is answered the same morning, not the next day.
Practical tips for working across the gap
- Quote times with the zone, for example “14:00 UAE / 15:30 India”, in every invite.
- Send instructions in writing, so the team can start without waiting for a call.
- Hold your regular call in the middle of the day, not at the edges.
- Agree a clear rule for urgent matters, such as who the team contacts and how.
Weekends and holidays differ
The UAE and India observe different public holidays and may keep different rest days. Eid, National Day and other UAE holidays do not match Indian holidays such as Diwali or Republic Day, and the UAE week and the Indian week do not always share the same rest days. Agree a holiday and leave calendar with Lydon before the seat starts, share it with your team, and plan deadlines around it. If your business has a shorter day on some days, such as Fridays, tell us when you describe the role.
If you need different hours
The standard pattern is 10:00–19:00 India time. If you need a different pattern, for example longer hours, tell us when you describe the role so we can say what is possible and what it would cost. Hours outside the standard pattern are quoted with the role.
